What is Tenochtitlan?
Tenochtitlan is the beautiful capital of the Aztec Empire located on an island in Lake Texcoco in the Valley of Mexico. Tenochtitlan is an island filled with architectural beauty and rich history. Founded in 1325, Tenochtitlan was the capital of the rising Aztec Empire until the 15th century, when they were overtaken by the Spanish Armada. You can sleep in the great temple, home to many different emperors including Montezuma II, or take a gondola ride on the Tenochtitlan canals and see the intricate stone artwork scattered around the island. If you're not interested in the busy lifestyle of Tenochtitlan but still interested in the Aztec history you can visit the numerous neighboring cities (part of the Aztec Empire) or cities allied with the Aztecs.
